I expected meh, though - Nissan is probably the most meh of mainstream automakers - nothing cutting edge, a fairly abrupt CVT that’s been unchanged for many years, and unremarkable handling, interiors, or even resale.

Kind of sad to see, since about 10 years ago they were one of the most cutting-edge mainstream manufacturers.
I can only imagine tons of bland Altima and Rogue sales will make you a little complacent.
